About Dr. Victoria H Fierro-Cobas, MD, FAAP

A child who has trouble at school may need help than just tutoring. Attention, language, development, behavior or a medical issue can affect how a child learns. Dr. Victoria H. Fierro-Cobas helps families understand where those difficulties come from. Dr. Fierro-Cobas is a pediatrician who specializes in child development and behavior. She works at Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists. She helps infants, children and teenagers. She is especially interested in autism, attention problems and learning issues. She speaks English and Spanish.

A visit with Dr. Fierro-Cobas often starts with a long talk. Parents discuss when a problem started, how their child acts at home what teachers have noticed and if the issue affects sleep friendships, talking or schoolwork. Doctor Fierro-Cobas helps children with delays and behavior problems. These problems might involve speech, language, movement, attention, learning or thinking. She also sees children whose families need an autism assessment.

The process might include an exam and a physical or neurological exam. Some children need tests. These might include screening, medical imaging or assessments of brain function and learning. The exact plan depends on the child’s symptoms and history. Developmental care often involves people. Parents, pediatricians, teachers, therapists and other medical specialists may each see a part of the problem. Dr. Fierro-Cobas brings that information together. Helps the family understand what to do next. Dr. Fierro-Cobas and her team help families.

Medical education in Venezuela, Miami and Boston

Dr. Fierro-Cobas earned her degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela in 1993. She then completed her general pediatrics training at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami. She finished in 1999. She pursued training through Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Her training covered pediatrics and developmental-behavioral pediatrics. It ended in 2000.

The American Board of Pediatrics certified her in pediatrics in 1999. She got a certification in developmental-behavioral pediatrics in 2006.

Care for stages of childhood

Nicklaus Children’s lists Dr. Fierro-Cobas as a provider for infants, children and adolescents. A concern can look different at each age. A young child may show delays in speech, movement, play or social interaction. A school-age child may have trouble with attention, writing, math, classroom behavior or relationships with peers. A teenager may need support with organization learning demands, behavior or a developmental diagnosis. Her profile lists her as accepting patients. Families should still call the scheduling office because appointment access and referral requirements may change.

Professional work beyond visits

Dr. Fierro-Cobas is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Florida Pediatric Society. Her work has been published in journals. She has also presented at conferences. She helps teach doctors. Nicklaus Children’s has featured her in sessions on developmental-behavioral pediatrics. These sessions include a program on ADHD, for pediatricians. Dr. Fierro-Cobas and her team help families and doctors.
