Dr. Martin is a board-certified anesthesiologist. He is in charge of the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic Florida. He is also a professor at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. His main focus is on risk heart and lung procedures and he is especially interested in taking care of lung transplant patients. He is also certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. Martin started his education at Okaloosa-Walton Community College. Then he got a degree in biology from the University of West Florida.

He got his degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 2007. After that he did an internal medicine internship at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He went to Yale School of Medicine for his anesthesiology residency, which he finished in 2011. Then he did a cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in 2012.

This training helped him get ready for cases that might involve bad heart disease, poor lung function, transplant surgery or devices that help with circulation. Dr. Martin does a lot of work outside of the operating room. He has been a visiting professor at schools in the United States, Europe and Asia and he has given talks about anesthesia for people with heart and lung disease, transplant care and mechanical support systems.

He is also involved with the American Society of Anesthesiologists the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. His profile at Mayo Clinic says that he was the Chair of the ISHLT Membership Committee in 2026. It also says that he has done leadership work on guidelines for ill patients, with pulmonary vascular disease and consensus work related to lung transplantation.
